Transfer Quota
For Personal Email, the transfer quota functions as a limit
on the amount of money we are willing to spend on each user,
based on our income from advertisements. It is actually
quite a bit more than our typical user uses. If you need more,
you will have to upgrade to a Professional Email account.
For Professional Email, the transfer quota is the amount
of transfer that you payed for. We encourage you to
purchase a large enough transfer quota for your highest
monthly use in the year.
- How does the transfer quota work?
We measure the size of each incoming email message, and
add them together. When that total goes over your
monthly transfer quota, our server rejects further
email to you until the end of the month.
At the beginning of the month, we reset all transfer
totals back to zero.
- So you measure only incoming traffic?
At present yes, we measure only incoming traffic.
We have found that outgoing bandwidth closely tracks
incoming bandwidth.
If outgoing bandwidth becomes a problem, rest assured
that we will start restricting outgoing transfer. If
we do, we will restrict based on incoming or outgoing
transfer, whichever is higher for the account.
- How much of my transfer quota have I used so far this month?
The bandwidth and storage quotas are displayed when you log in.
- Do you care if I hit my quota?
If you do so regularly, we will require you to use a Professional Email account.
If you're already using a Professional Email account,
we will remind you that you would benefit from a larger quota.
